Instituto de Psiquiatria Do Paraná

The Institute of Psychiatry of Paraná was founded in 2009 by professors who came from the psychiatry residency preceptorship at the former Nossa Senhora da Luz Hospital (PUC-PR). The intention was for the Institute to be a reference in the training of psychiatrists, but after graduating two classes, due to disagreements between the partners, the academic project was set aside. In 2012, four other mental health professionals (psychiatrists and psychologists) took over IPPr for clinical care, among them Emerson Rodrigues Barbosa, as clinical director (he remains in the position to this day). In the second semester of 2016, transcranial magnetic stimulation services began. And in 2017 a new unit was opened — Batel and Alto da Glória. In 2022 there was a change in the partnership structure with the arrival of psychiatrist João Paulo da Costa Rosa, initiating a remodeling — now using the acronym IPPr. Also in 2022, the Batel unit was closed, and the implementation of electroconvulsive therapy began alongside an expansion plan. The Institute maintains the professional values and conduct based on scientific evidence, in welcoming human suffering, with the transparency and trust that were guiding principles in its foundation.
