Surgeon with more than 100,000 surgeries performed. Physician, Ophthalmologist, Master's degree holder and PhD from the Escola Paulista de Medicina – UNIFESP. Post-doctoral fellow in Immunology and Clinical Fellow in Cornea and Cataract at Harvard Medical School – Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. A pioneer in various surgical techniques, he is cited in more than 500 publications worldwide. Member of the team that implanted the first Intracorneal Ring in the world. He has contributed to more than 200 international publications and delivered more than 100 lectures across 5 continents. He served as a Graduate Course Advisor at UNIFESP and as a member of the Editorial Board of the Brazilian Archives of Ophthalmology. He is a founding member of the UNIFESP Vision Institute and the Brazilian Society of LASER Surgery. One of the first surgeons to perform cataract surgery using phacoemulsification in Brazil in 1993, and laser refractive surgery in 1997, he has performed more than 40,000 refractive surgeries and 12,000 cataract surgeries, training dozens of surgeons in both techniques. He was one of the first surgeons to perform LASER cataract surgery in Brazil. Full member of the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology and the Brazilian Academy of Ophthalmology. Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, where he received the Achievement Award in 2005. He is also a member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. In 1991, he founded Eye Care Hospital de Olhos (www.eyecare.com.br), a clinic with more than 200,000 patients located on Av. Brasil in São Paulo, with 3 additional branch locations.
